AMELIORATE DOULA
There are numerous benefits to hiring a doula during any stage of pregnancy. A doula is a trained, ethical professional who provides, above all else, informative emotional, physical & practical support before, during & after childbirth. Doulas are trained in various techniques to help alleviate pain during labour & delivery, including massage, breathing exercises & positioning techniques.
Moreover, a doula is not hired or scheduled with any one maternity care system but is hired privately by women. In this instance, we have the capacity to follow you throughout your entire pregnancy & attend any appointments you deem necessary. Providing a complete "continuity of care" to emotionally support women during their transition to motherhood, as described by her original terminology, Matrescene (Dana Raphael,1973).
Continuity of care has numerous benefits, including rapport, trust & reliability. Studies have demonstrated that women who have a doula present during the perinatal stage (conception up to one year after birth) are less likely to need medical interventions such as caesarean sections, epidurals & forceps deliveries (Bohren et al.,2017).
REASSURANCE
Provide reassurance at any preferred perinatal stage of a woman's journey into Matrescene. Gently guide & encourage women to stay calm & focused. Explore connections & bonds to coordinate appropriate support services. Foster healthy coping mechanisms to navigate the physical, emotional, & spiritual challenges of childbirth.
ADVOCACY
Assist women in advocating for their personal preferences in line with their bio-psycho-social-political-spiritual needs during labour delivery & beyond. Assist with communications with medical providers & ensure the woman's wishes are respected. Communicate & collaborate in unison as multidisciplinary healthcare.
POSTPARTUM
Doulas can provide pre- & post-perinatal education to support women, assisting in self-determination. They can also familiarise existing capabilities, provide newborn care & perform light household chores. Doulas can offer valuable emotional support & guidance for women to establish successful relationships with their newborn babies, encompassing bio-psycho-social preferences.
